Closer to the Sea

A small book of ninety-nine invitations to notice the ocean — and to keep it close, even when you're far from it.

The invitations move through three parts: on the shore, in the water, and away from the ocean, for the days you cannot get to it. None of them ask much. Stand at the edge a little longer. Open your eyes beneath a wave. Breathe out slowly, the way a wave breaks on the sand.

This is a book to do, not only to read. Open it anywhere, choose one invitation, and let it be enough. Write on the pages. Add your photographs. Over time, it becomes less a book about the ocean — and more a record of your own.
